SIERRA MENTAL WELLNESS GROUP IN COLLABORATION WITH THE COUNTY OF SAN LUIS OBISPO TO PROVIDE MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif.— Sierra Mental Wellness Group in partnership with the County of San Luis Obispo Behavioral Health Department has renewed a contract to offer mental health services in the community. The contract includes both the Mental Health Evaluation Team (MHET) and the Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU). These programs have been funded through the Mental Health Services Act (MHSA) Community Services and Support (CSS) component, to treat and prevent mental illness, to contribute to the understanding of mental health, and to promote resiliency and recovery among community members.

The MHET is designed to improve community wellness with an immediate and high quality response to psychiatric emergencies, throughout the entire County. Whenever possible, the MHET assists community members in utilizing an array of robust crisis intervention and crisis respite services in the community.

The CSU is designed to provide immediate and short term (up to 24 hours) therapeutic response in a comfortable environment in order to stabilize an acute mental health crisis in a safe and secure environment using a variety of person centered and culturally-appropriate services including intervention, medication support, nutrition and community linkages.

“It is exciting to work with San Luis Obispo County on forward looking services that provide such important components of a healthy community. The collaboration benefits good people during a vulnerable point in their lives.” Jon Kerschner, MA Executive Director, Sierra Mental Wellness Group.
